چکیده

When sight-reading a score, timpanist needs to decide in real-time which stick use play specific note while interpreting the musical material. Our main point of inquiry seeks understand sticking patterns performers employ and how they are affected by rhythmic stability. This paper analyzes bi-manual sequencing (i.e., sticking) 31 timpanists task. We analyze their results compared model common percussion pedagogical literature. Results show that hand dominance plays an essential role individual's pattern, stability pattern may also dramatically influence observed particular strategies. In areas stability, largely adhered one two conventional literature (dominant lead & alternating). Where became more unstable, separated into diverse groups. Moreover, several demonstrated were hybrids or inverse patterns, without any impact on success abilities. Overall, no individual same pattern. terms pedagogy, our findings suggest benefit from awareness adaptability Lastly, we make case for further study locating difference between notational aural complexity.

An fMRI study of music sight-reading.

The brain areas involved in music reading were investigated using fMRI. In order to evaluate the specificity of these areas we compared reading music notation to reading verbal and number notations in a task that required professional pianists to play the notes (in musical and verbal notations) and the numbers displayed on a 5-key keyboard. Overall, the three tasks revealed a similar pattern of...

Musical sight-reading expertise: cross-modality investigations

It is often said that experienced musicians are capable of hearing what they read from the score and vice versa. This suggests that they are able to process and to integrate multimodal information. Does the expertise in music rely on an efficient cross-modal integration? This paper investigates this issue with 2 experiments. In the first one, 30 expert and 31 non expert musicians were required ...

The “sight Reading” Method of Teaching Reading, as a Source of Reading Disability

I feel some trepidation in offering criticism in a field somewhat outside of that of my own endeavor but a very considerable part of my attention for the past four years has been given to the study of reading disability from the standpoint of cerebral physiology. This work has now extended over a comparatively large series of cases from many different schools and both the theory which has direc...

Sight-Reading Versus Repertoire Performance on the Piano: A Case Study Using High-Speed Motion Analysis

This study was intended to examine whether differences exist in the motions employed by pianists when they are sightreading versus performing repertoire and to determine whether these differences can be quantified using high-speed motion capture technology. A secondary question of interest was whether or not an improvement in the efficiency of motion could be observed between two sight-reading ...

Sight-reading expertise: Cross-modality integration investigated using eye tracking

It is often said that experienced musicians are capable of hearing what they read (and vice versa). This suggests that they are able to process and to integrate multimodal information. The present study investigates this issue with an eye-tracking technique. Two groups of musicians chosen on the basis of their level of expertise (experts, non-experts) had to read excerpts of poorly-known classi...
